Projekt

Herzlich willkommen zu diesem etwas außergewöhnlichen Projekt auf einem Friedhof. Außergewöhnlich weil doch ein Friedhof eher das Ende, hier aber den Anfang markiert. Von einem Glashaus auf dem Alten Sankt Matthäus Kirchhof in Berlin Schöneberg begebe ich mich auf die Suche nach Stimmen, Tönen und Klängen von Menschen, die nicht in das binäre Geschlechtersystem passten und passen.

Denn auf dem Friedhof sind auch Menschen bestattet, die sich weder als Mann oder Frau fühlten oder die im Laufe ihres Lebens ihr Geschlecht änderten oder zu ändern versuchten. Manche von ihnen sahen es als eine dringliche gesellschaftspolitische Aufgabe an, das binäre System zu knacken. Das wohl älteste Zeugnis ist ein Grab, dessen Laufzeit eigentlich schon abgelaufen ist. Auf dem weißen Grabstein steht: „Kirstin – Mit falschem Körper“, geboren 1927, verstorben 1997. Wer war dieser Mensch? Was will uns diese Botschaft mitteilen? Im Verlauf dieses Projektes, das ein halbes Jahr bis Ende 2021 hier stattfindet, will ich versuchen, auch auf diese Frage eine Antwort zu finden, vielleicht sogar mit Deiner Hilfe. Ich habe diesen Web-Blog eingerichtet, den Du über den QR-Code im Glashaus findest. Über die Kommentarfunktion und im Glashaus kannst Du Dich an mich wenden und Deine Gedanken und Erinnerungen, auch Anregungen zum Projekt hinterlassen. Analoge und digitale Welt stehen miteinander in Verbindung.

PSCODE ist so etwas wie ein Forschungsprojekt auf dem Weg der Kunst, wehrhafter Kunst. Es will erinnern und ermutigen. Erinnern an das Leben trans*identer Persönlichkeiten, ihre Erlebnisse, Erfahrungen und ihre Aktivitäten. Ermutigen im Kampf gegen Diskriminierung und Ausschluss. Der Kampf für Vielfalt ist richtig und notwendig. Das binäre Geschlechtersystem, das nur Mann oder Frau kennt, führte und führt zu Leid und Elend. Kunst und Kreativität eröffnen einen Freiraum, das unsichtbare Leben sichtbar zu machen. Auf diesen Weg begebe ich mich in verschiedenen zeitlichen Phasen. Am Ende des Jahres, wenn die Homebase, das Glashaus dann abgebaut und der reale Ort dieser Erinnerung und Ermutigung verschwinden wird, beginnt eine neue Phase. Wie auch immer sie dann aussehen und sich anhören mag, das Projekt ist offen.

Ich danke all den Menschen, die hier zu Wort kommen oder still im Hintergrund mein Projekt unterstützt haben und unterstützen, allen voran Anna von Garnier, die den Web-Blog gestaltet hat und mit ihren eigenen Ideen und Anregungen das Projekt noch schöner machte. Ich danke auch Riva Esther Goldberg, Marion Fabian, Tomka Weiß und Steffi Kuklinski vom Team „quEAR!“. Zusammen hatten wir fast ein Jahr lang an der Idee zu einem neuen trans*tonalen Hörfestival mit dem Titel „Passing Sounds“ gearbeitet. Ihre Ideen, was passing sounds eigentlich sind und wie wir sie hörbar machen könnten, sind mit in mein Projekt eingeflossen. Ich danke auch dem Friedhof für die Bereitstellung des Ortes und der Dezentralen Kulturarbeit des Bezirks Berlin Tempelhof-Schöneberg sowie dem Verein „Homosexuelle Selbsthilfe“ für die finanzielle Unterstützung. Ohne all die Menschen, die sich diesem Projekt gegenüber wohlwollend und interessiert gezeigt haben, wäre die Realisierung nicht möglich gewesen.

PSCODE ist für mich eine Initiation, mein persönlicher Start in eine Welt voller Resonanzen aber auch Dissonanzen, die ich ergründen möchte, auch im Hinblick auf die Suche nach meiner eigenen Stimme, meinen Passing Sounds. Ich lade Dich ein mitzuwirken. PSCODE lebt auch von Deiner Teilnahme, Deiner Antwort. QR steht für „Quick Response“, die schnelle Antwort. Das ist aber nur technisch gemeint, denn ich antworte Dir hier nicht schnell und erwarte keine schnellen Antworten. Eine lange Zeit der Vorbereitung ging dem Projekt voraus. Ich freue mich, wenn Du mir Deine Gedanken und Anregungen mitteilst, über den Web-Blog oder im Glashaus.

Welcome to this somewhat unusual project taking place in a cemetery. Extraordinary because a cemetery rather marks the end, but here the beginning. From a glass house on the Old St. Matthew’s Churchyard in Berlin Schöneberg, I wander out in search of voices, tones and sounds of people who did not, and do not, fit into the binary gender system.

For buried in the cemetery are also people who felt neither male nor female, or who changed or tried to change their gender in the course of their lives. Some of them saw it as an urgent socio-political task to crack the binary system. Probably the oldest testimony is a grave whose term has actually expired. On the white gravestone is written: „Kirstin – born into the wrong body“ in 1927, died in 1997. Who was this person? What does this message want to tell us? In the course of this project, which will take place here for six months until the end of 2021, I will try to find an answer to this question and many others, maybe even with your help. I have set up this web blog, which you can find via the QR code in the glass house. Via the comment function and in the glass house, you can contact me and leave your thoughts, memories and suggestions for the project. Analog and digital worlds are connected with each other.

PSCODE is something like a research project using the means of art, even defensive art. It wants to remember and encourage. To remember the lives of trans*ident personalities, their stories, experiences and their activities. To encourage in the fight against discrimination and exclusion. The fight for diversity is right and necessary. The binary gender system, which only knows man or woman, led and leads to suffering and misery. Art and creativity open a free space to make the invisible life visible. I embark on this path in different temporal phases. At the end of the year, when the home base, the glass house, will be dismantled and the real place of this memory and encouragement will disappear, a new phase will begin. However that phase may look and sound like then, the project is open to all possibilities.

I want to thank all the people here having their say or who have quietly supported, and continue to support, my project in the background, especially Anna von Garnier, who designed the web blog and made the project even more beautiful with her own ideas and suggestions. I would also like to thank Riva Esther Goldberg, Marion Fabian, Tomka Weiß and Steffi Kuklinski from the „quEAR!“ team. Together we had worked for almost a year on the idea for a new trans*tonal listening festival called „Passing Sounds“. Their ideas about what passing sounds actually are and how we could make them audible flowed into my project. Many thanks also to the cemetery for providing the site. PSCODE is an initiation for me, my personal entry into a world full of resonances but also dissonances, which I want to explore, also with regard to the search for my own voice, my passing sounds. But this is only meant technically, because I will not answer you quickly here and I do not expect quick answers. A long time of preparation preceded this project.
